Brothers of Alpha East:
Happy 250th Birthday, United States Marine Corps!
For two and a half centuries, the Few and the Proud have stood watch on freedom’s farthest frontiers, undaunted in the face of adversity, steadfast in duty, and unmatched in honor, courage, and commitment. From the birth of our nation to every modern battlefield, Marines have embodied the unyielding spirit of service and sacrifice that keeps our Republic strong.
Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc.® proudly salutes every Marine past, present, and future whose valor and vigilance have defended liberty around the world. We take special pride in our own Brothers who have carried the banner of both the Eagle, Globe, and Anchor and the Seven Jewels of Alpha Phi Alpha:
- Brother Ozell Sutton, a pioneering African American Marine and later General
President of Alpha Phi Alpha. - Lieutenant General Walter E. Gaskin, the first African American to command both a
Marine Expeditionary Unit and a Marine Division in combat. - Lieutenant General Ronald L. Bailey, the first African American to command the 1st
Marine Division—the Marine Corps’ largest and most storied division. - Corporal Albert Vann, whose Marine discipline and determination fueled a lifetime of
distinguished public service.
Your courage, character, and commitment exemplify the highest ideals of both the United States
Marine Corps and Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc.—manly deeds, scholarship, and love for
all mankind. On this milestone 250th birthday, we stand in profound respect and eternal gratitude.
To every Marine, Semper Fidelis, and Happy Birthday, United States Marine Corps!
