Brothers of Alpha East:

Today, Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Incorporated proudly celebrates 250 years of honor, courage, and commitment. A legacy built by the men and women of the United States Navy who have safeguarded freedom across every ocean and every generation.

As the Navy marks this historic milestone, we especially honor the diverse tapestry of Sailors both past and present, whose excellence, sacrifice, and leadership reflect the highest ideals of our nation and our Brotherhood. From the deckplate to the admiralty, these courageous men and women have not only defended liberty but also advanced equality, inclusion, and opportunity within the ranks of America’s Sea Service.

Our Brotherhood is proud to have produced trailblazers whose service has left an indelible markon naval history and on our collective progress:

    • Rear Admiral Gerald Eustis Thomas – One of the first African Americans to attain flag rank in the U.S. Navy, embodying leadership and perseverance.
    • Lieutenant Commander Wesley A. Brown – The first African American graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy and a pioneer in the Naval Civil Engineer Corps.
    • Lieutenant (Junior Grade) Kenton W. Keith – A distinguished officer and diplomat who carried the spirit of service from the sea to the world stage.

These Alpha men exemplified what it means to live the Fraternity’s mission of “Manly Deeds, Scholarship, and Love for All Mankind.” Their stories—and those of countless other Sailors—remind us that strength is found in diversity, unity, and an unyielding commitment to excellence.

To every Sailor who has ever served beneath the Navy’s colors: Thank you for your courage, your sacrifice, and your unwavering watch over freedom’s horizon. May you always have fair winds and following seas.

Happy 250th Birthday, United States Navy!
