Salute to Best Practices in Mentoring African American Males

The focus of the Public Program for this year’s Eastern Region Convention will be a “Salute to Best Practices in Mentoring African American Males.” For this effort we will select and feature three chapters that sponsor model mentoring programs. Programs selection is based on the following criteria:

The program must:

  • Show sustainability by having been in operation at least ten years
  • Have clearly written learning outcomes or objectives
  • Reach a broad constituency in your community (serve students in multiple schools or communities)
  • Have in place some type of assessment process

Also, chapters are encouraged to bring to the Regional Convention (at your expense) current participants or program alumni, who can address the audience on how the program has impacted their lives.

The next day (i.e., Friday, April 25th) following the Public Program, the sponsoring chapters will have the opportunity to present a workshop on how to develop that type of program.

If your chapter sponsors a program that meets the criteria, please submit it for consideration by completing and returning the submission form to Dr. Ralph E. Johnson, rjohns1706 [at] gmail.com, by the submission deadline of April 5th. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me directly by email or on my cell phone at (443) 538-7602.
